ABOUT JESSICA R. WILLIS
Intuition guides my work as I study natural and recycled materials, collecting in a non-destructive way and creating organic art forms. Nature is my source of inspiration; spending time in the heart of the woods creates an understanding of the material’s origins as well as nature’s cycles, patterns and textures. Through a process that appears to be of chance, impulses transform my work, allowing forms to grow organically.
Working on many pieces at a time allows me to translate ideas between mediums, moving fluidly between materials and dimensions. The work grows spontaneously and relies on a strong sense of tactility for both maker and audience as mediums are explored and combined. Change is the only constant as life adapts; growth and decay become the notes within a musical beat. By using natural and recycled materials while surrendering to improvisation, I holistically participate in this rhythmic cycle.
